A few days ago I took this shot of a butterfly I have not seen this summer. The bright colors of the butterfly and the flowers I think make a nice photo. [Edit on 9/14 - I uploaded this photo to another web site that I check from time to time and today received a note that it was selected as the Photo of the Week there.]

We put up a new hummingbird feeder in our front garden this afternoon. Within an hour we had a visitor appear. While the birds at the feeder in back are pretty used to me being around and will let me get pretty close to take photos, this guy was pretty cautious and flew away if he sensed any movement. He flies to a nearby tree and guards the feeder. From what I have read it is unusual to have a ruby-throated hummingbird this late in the season in South Carolina.

I started taking pictures at various school events of students that I taught. I would print the best shots out and put them on my bulletin board. It was always fun to see the kids gathered around to see if they had made it to the board.
Now I maintain the school’s website and put together photo galleries of the events. Last year I uploaded 115 galleries of student events. I still print out the occasional photo to put on the board or outside my door. I do have to be a bit more inclusive and not concentrate solely on the students I teach. It’s always gratifying when I walk into the library or classroom to see students or teachers paging through the latest galleries and commenting on the photos. If you want to have a look at the gallery from which the photo above came go here.
