As spring begins we have noticed a number of birds in the yard gathering twigs to build nests. We’ve seen cardinals, mockingbirds, wrens, and this Brown Thrasher. I watched this one digging around in the flower garden and flying up into a holly tree next to the house and took several shots through the window in the living room. We’ve even seen one egg in a nest in one of the trees.

Some of the faculty at school took a field trip this week to the Place of Peace house on the Furman campus. The house was taken apart and shipped from Japan to Furman. This shot is of a cherry tree outside the house. The tree began blooming the day we went to visit. Several folks were there taking photos of various things in the area. I have more shots available on my Flickr page.

Swan at Furman

What a difference a week makes. Last week I was shooting cardinals in the back yard in the snow. Today we went to Furman and while Dena walked Leidy around the lake I photographed swans and ducks. This shot was of a swan near the bank when a large dog got a little too close. I heard hissing and turned to get this shot of the swan hissing at the intruder.

As usual I uploaded more shots to my Flickr site but I have also been playing with a SmugMug account which can be set up to sell photos. You can see the shots I have available there (a little limited now with just a few of my favorites that I have printed before) by going to http://veazeyphotos.com.

Snow Day

Rick on Mar 2nd 2009

The weekend brought a good bit of rain to our area and as temperatures dropped last night the rain changed to snow resulting in our first snow day of the year. We put out some bird seed which attracted this pair of cardinals. If the weather forecast is accurate we will see temps near 70 by the end of the week. With spring sports starting the regular season next week I hope it is accurate.
