This evening I went to the door and when I glanced at the bird feeder saw this guy. We put the feeder out a week or so ago and this is the first visitor we have seen this season. I look forward to watching (and photographing) them in the coming weeks.

I was shooting a squirrel in our front yard this morning and heard a bird nearby singing quite enthusiastically. I looked around and saw this brown thrasher sitting on a branch. He must have stayed there over ten minutes. He did fly up to a higher branch as I tried to move to a better location but once there he didn’t seem to mind me moving around to get shots from different locations. There were also a number of cardinals and blue jays in the yard this morning.

After a few days of beautiful weather it turned colder today and the birds were busy in our yard. Over the course of the afternoon I saw male and female cardinals, blue jays, finches, mockingbirds, and this pair of doves enjoying the feed I poured out to tempt them to pose for a photo. I watched this pair through a window in the game room. The tulips in the far background are blooming but tonight the temps are supposed to drop below 30. I’m ready for spring to stick around and hope to get some shots of the dogwoods in bloom soon.

The holly trees in front of our house have become a favorite spot for bumblebees as spring has come. I pulled out my macro lens and took several shots today from our porch. I’m on Spring Break this week but the weather forecast doesn’t look as promising once the weekend passes.
